Furthering my studies in Aussie

July 5, 2014

It's already mid 2014, and I have already settled about 75% of the things needed to be done before I embark on a new journey in a new land. Left with Visa application (which I need to get another medical check up done first) and booking of air tickets and confirming my accommodation

Recently signed my bond with my scholarship provider. Though it means commitment, we all need to look on the bright side that it's a guaranteed employment, even if the economy comes falling down *touch wood* we will still need to work for the number of years stated on the bond agreement.

& fellow scholars took our first step out, attended the pre-camp briefing. We have a camp next wed-friday. Not very looking forward to some aspects, cause I could guess, they would either limit our bathing opportunities or not let us bathe at all. Because in the packing list shown (they will email us again soon), i don't remember seeing 'toiletries' but the words 'BODY POWDER' stands out. Having a brother who went through NS, I know what's the use of body powder, it's for a DRY POWER BATH. But for me, with sensitive skin and stuff, not very pleased to hear this. But I will bring stuff to make myself feel cleaner and better. WET WIPES & DRY SHAMPOO. I cannot stand myself being stinky, it's okay if it's just 1 day not bathing, but it's 2 DAYS. & guess what? I will still bring my Curel lotion and moisture gel despite it being a camp, because it's not worth if my skin betrays me again.

One of the largest camp group I have ever been in, my previous one was SP Scholar's camp. Oh that scholars camp has the best activities and best service, sets such a high standard that not even this upcoming camp can ever reach it. It was pure PLEASURE and RELAXATION. Seaview 24/7. & Breakfast was the bomb (almost as good as hotels).

Having the experience of a scholar in SP gave me some kind of 'things to expect'. I'm pretty much okay with the grades standard etc, it's actually more of a motivation to make sure you do not veer off course. & actually scholars don't differ that much from the rest. Like just normal student trying his/her best to do well and to make the most out of the time during UNI and stuff. Met the other scholars, like having mixed feelings, quite sure many of them are from Junior Colleges, but coming from POLY still makes me feel that I could adapt slightly better. Though sometimes we still get spoonfed in school, but I don't think it's as often as in JCs, a lot of the times lecturers are just too busy to entertain our requests. So we make do with whatever, and ask classmates for help and stuff, or just GOOGLE. & sometimes, we get the not so good in teaching ones, and we end up self-studying almost the entire module *god blessed our brains*

A large part of me has to thank GOOGLE. & I would just like to request other girls out there to USE GOOGLE (it's there for a reason), and don't whine when things happen and that you don't know what to do; GOOGLE. Trust me, someone elsewhere definitely experienced the same thing and they share it online, so GOOGLE. (I just secretly dislike girls giving up when they don't know how to do certain stuff) I get annoyed.  *rolls eyes like a million times*

Sometimes when I run into academic problems, i use google as well. like to find formulas or to solve certain sums. I even learnt SPSS last time from google and youtube. But then again, I forgot how to use it already, guess Uni there will be a class should  ever need to use it (i think need, because I need to obtain a minimum of 2nd upper class honours, so means die also need do honours project). But I will try to aim for 1st class honours if I can manage. Should be able to do so if I just remain as hardworking as I am (during the years in Singapore).

I think it's good for me to start afresh in a new land, where nobody knows me (except for a couple of seniors). Leave and forget all the unpleasant memories in Singapore, let it all fade with time and return as a new, and better person and to be able to do what I want. I hope by then when I return, Singapore healthcare system especially the Nutrition & Dietetics area to be greater and allow greenhorns to specialise in a certain area. Because it's relatively small now, I have heard that greenhorns usually do not have much of a choice, and are doing things because of the demand there. I really do hope I can focus on the younger population (I'm heading the opp. ways of many others that will tackle the rising aging population) I want to ensure that the same mistakes the previous generations made won't be repeated, the kids should know they HAVE A CHOICE in the foods they eat & they need to FACE THE CONSEQUENCES if nutritional imbalance occur. They have the right to change their lifestyles, they don't need to rely on their parents for the food they eat. They themselves have the capability to 'pressure' their parents on the food they want (hope they will choose more healthy stuff).
